Firstly, I want to congratulate every single person that was strong enough to show up and push through a very difficult Adventure course. Not only were the challenge stations difficult, it was a challenge just getting to each of them. Of the 30 people who signed up for Ambitious Adventure 002, 23 showed up to take on the course.
Most people showed up in teams of two, made up of friends, boyfriend/girlfriends, and strangers. There was just one solo competitor, who earned the nickname “The Machine” from fellow runners.
While the course was only 5.5 miles, a few mapped their route to find out they were just shy of 9 miles :) - navigation is obliviously not their strongest sense…
Unlike last year, we didn’t have anyone hitching rides in police cars.
Speaking of cars, the Red Bull DC Wings Team came out to provide free Red Bull to all of the Ambitious Athletes as they hammered out challenges. The Red Bull Hydration & Creative Station was set up in order to give everyone a mental break, celebrate, and get goofy before they tackled the remaining course and uphill battle, literally. Full picture catalog below.
Team TDFW (Turn Down For What) was the first to complete the adventure in just 2 hours and 24 minutes.
Team Rawlings, our team of one, AKA “The Machine”, showed up second, completing the course in 2 hours and 35 minutes.
By 11:30am (3hrs 30 mins) the entire course was clear, and by 12:20pm the Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's were poured, served, and sipped at Open City coffeehouse and diner in Woodley Park. Go hard, finish hard.
Had it not been for the team of fantastic volunteers, this crazy idea wouldn't have ever begun. I truly appreciate this team for driving in from PA, VA, and MD in order to help make this event a success. Thank you for helping bring this vision to reality.
If you’re reading this and are still unaware of Ambitious Adventure, it’s a 5.5 mile charity fun run that challenges an individual’s navigation, problem solving, and teamwork skills, as well as his/her own strength and conditioning. Participants complete challenges in order to gain directions to the next obstacle. The course is scattered with gift cards, money, and other treats that each team or individual can gain clues to in exchange for more work. We would tell you more but it’s an Adventure, you have to experience it yourself.
Mark you calendars, Ambitious Adventure 003 – Saturday May 30, 2015.
All proceeds from this event were donated to the Challenged Athletes Foundation in order to help ambitious individuals get back to doing what they love, competing in sport.
Dedicated to your health, happiness, and adventure,
