2023: The year of MJ

Happy New Year! We are calling this year Michael Jordan, number 23, one of the greatest ever to play, maybe the best of all time; that's the mindset we are leaning into the new year with. That said, welcome to our new training program, Michael Jordan (we name every training phase after a legendary athlete).

Did you know it wasn't until about six years into his NBA career (1990) that Jordan started lifting weights, saying "'I never really lifted weights before because I was always afraid it would mess up my shot or slow me down."

But Jordan needed to become more physical in the paint, make his body more resilient, and have a better idea of how hard he could push his body.

I don't need to provide any history lesson here; MJ's legacy speaks for itself; lifting weights didn't slow him down or mess up his shot.

MJ went on to win six championships. If you've ever seen Jordan play, you know he could make just about any basket under any circumstance.

I think about what Jordan did on the court and apply that to life. You are capable of anything; you must show up and do the boring hard work. Life is your sport.

This training phase will include 4 lifting days; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - all will be total body with the first two exercises focused on power and strength, the last couple to include core and stability work. Wednesday and Saturday will be reserved for cardiovascular capacity/conditioning and mobility.
